Instructions for Installing Prosilica's GigE cameras - Multiple GigE cameras / multiple ports

Operating GigE Vision cameras using multiple network adaptors

Normally, it is possible to operate multiple GigE Vision cameras simultaneously on a single network adaptor by using a Gigabit Ethernet switch. However, it is also possible to operate multiple cameras through multiple network adaptors located on a host computer. In order to operate Prosilica's GigE Vision cameras connected to multiple network adaptors on a single host computer it is necessary to properly configure the network adaptors so that each is on a different subnet:

1. First Follow steps 1 through 7 of the GigE Installation instructions for each network adaptor.

2. Re-open the “Properties” of your first network adapter by right-clicking "Local Area Connection 1"* network connection icon in the Network Connections window and select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” from the list of items used by the connection. Click on the “Properties” button, then select “Use the following IP address” and enter 169.254.100.1 in the IP address field. The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Click on the “Ok” button to save your changes. Strictly speaking, a different IP address from the one shown here can be used, but use this one for now.

Now open the “Properties” of your second network adapter by right-clicking the "Local Area Connection 2"* network connection icon in the Network Connections window and select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” from the list of items used by the connection. Click on the “Properties” button, then select “Use the following IP address” and enter 169.254.200.1 in the IP address field. The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Click on the “Ok” button to save your changes. Thus the second network card is assigned a different subnet (169.254.200.xxx) from the first network card (169.254.100.xxx).

*Your network connections may have somewhat different names than "Local Area Connection 1" or "Local Area Connection 2"

3. Disconnect all cameras from the system. Then download and install the Prosilica GigE Sample Viewer program -- also install the GigE Filter driver which is an optional part of the installation. This step will also install the GigEIPConfig untility which you can use to set the IP address of the cameras.

4. Open the “GigEIPConfig” utility which can be found under the Windows Start menu: Start>All Programs>Prosilica. Connect the first camera to the "Local Area Connection 1" adapter. Click the “change” button. Select “Use the following IP address” and enter 169.254.100.2 in the IP address field. Change the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0. Click on the “OK” button to save changes. This assigns the first camera to the same subnet as the first network adaptor.

Disconnect the first camera. Connect the second camera to the "Local Area Connection 2" adapter. The camera will appear in the “IP Configuration” window. Click the “change” button. Select “Use the following IP address” and enter 169.254.200.2 in the IP address field. Change the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0. Click on the “OK” button to save changes. This assigns the second camera to the second network adaptor.

You can now connect both cameras to your PC and grab images from them simultaneously.
