The Stingray is based on a modular design, offering flexible configurations and exceptional value for money. In addition, two new interactive demonstrations at the AVT booth show how digital image processing has applications beyond traditional machine vision.

The Allied Vision Technologies booth at VISION 2007 from November 6 - 8, 2007 in Stuttgart is designed to attract attention. The leading manufacturer of digital cameras for industrial and scientific image processing will reveal the new Stingray family of products, together with two interactive demonstrations: an automated foosball (table soccer) game, and the experimental music instrument “Reactable”.

Stingray: The “Transformer” Camera
The newest AVT camera family will celebrate its premiere at VISION 2007. The Stingray sets new standards for the machine vision market with its wide range of advanced capabilities together with a highly-modular design. The Stingray is loaded with smart features previously found only in high price classes. In addition, the AVT Modular Concept provides the flexibility to configure specific camera models to fit a wide range of applications. The initial set of Stingray cameras is equipped with a Firewire 1394b port for high-speed data transfer, and is optionally available with a glass optical fiber connection (GOF). The first six members of the Stingray camera family will be commercially available in March 2008.

Demos with a Difference: Foosball Robot and Visual Music Composition
While the market for traditional machine vision continues to grow for industrial applications, many new industries and applications are also discovering the possibilities offered by this technology. Allied Vision Technologies illustrates this trend with two interactive demonstrations that pair university research with AVT cameras.

The Foosball Robot was developed by a project team at the Cologne University of Applied Science (FH Köln, Germany). It is an automated table soccer game which, with the help of an AVT Pike camera, monitors the playing field and plays a team completely automatically. Booth visitors can challenge the Foosball Robot for themselves, but thanks to the FireWire IEEE 1394b AVT Pike camera and the rapid image processing, the Foosball Robot is difficult to beat!

Visual music composition and playback is provided by “Reactable”, an innovative 21st century electronic music instrument. Developed by a research team at Spain’s Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, the instrument is visually programmed by placing various objects on the surface of a round table. The specific objects, together with their orientations and positional relationships to each other, permit the composer to create a wide range of complex sounds. Even the pop singer Björk has used this innovative instrument. But visitors to the AVT booth don’t have to be musicians in order to appreciate the image processing aspects of the hands-on demonstration.

Seeing is Believing – In Hall 4 at Booth Nr. B28
VISION 2007 occurs for the first time at the brand new Stuttgart Trade Fair and Convention Center. AVT has designed a completely new booth, even larger than last year, in which to present the Stingray camera family and the interactive demos. Tradeshow visitors will find the AVT booth in Hall 4 – booth number B28.
